Alireza Ahmadi, CEO of Teram Company, in an interview with the Sanat-e-Chaap Magazine

Teram Group has serious plans for exporting printed products

In the rapidly evolving landscape of Iran’s printing industry, the Teram Group has emerged as a leader, renowned for its innovation, cutting-edge technology, and commitment to quality. As the largest and most modern private printing house in the country, Teram has set a high standard, not only in terms of production capacity but also in embracing sustainable practices and exploring international markets. To gain insights into the company’s latest developments, future plans, and the challenges of operating in today’s economic climate, we sat down with Alireza Ahmadi, the visionary CEO of Teram, for an exclusive interview. In this conversation, Mr. Ahmadi shares his thoughts on the company’s strategic direction, their recent visit to the Drupa exhibition, and how Teram is positioning itself to meet the demands of both domestic and global markets.

Last month, you and several Teram managers attended the Drupa exhibition. Did you select any new technology or equipment for Teram’s printing operations?

Yes, my colleagues and I were at the event. While we didn’t acquire any new equipment, we identified numerous suppliers. The biggest takeaway for Teram from Drupa was gaining a fresh perspective on the printing and packaging industry.

Teram is currently the most advanced and largest private printing house in Iran. What new investments can we expect in Teram’s short-term and mid-term development plans?

Teram is focused on expanding its product offerings and providing our customers with access to the latest global technologies. However, there are some restrictions on revealing specifics before they’re officially launched.

In addition to installing advanced machinery, utilizing specialized workflow and color management software is also crucial. What steps has your company taken in this area?

Teram uses a variety of software in this field. Color management is one of our standout strengths. Beyond software, Teram’s highly specialized team ensures that this is executed to the highest standard possible.

Some managers of major printing houses, given the current economic conditions and exchange rates, consider new developments and investments too risky. How do you justify taking such high risks?

As Hafez Shirazi said, “Where is the right path, and where am I, the lost one?”

Another concern that’s sometimes raised is that Iranian cardboard can’t fully leverage some of the advanced capabilities of modern machines (like high speed) and can also lead to increased wear and tear. This might affect profitability. How have you addressed this issue?

Overall, categorizing cardboard as either Iranian or foreign doesn’t seem entirely accurate. However, Teram is committed to using high-grade domestic cardboard, which our local manufacturers are capable of producing, and which offers good efficiency.

Teram Printing Sepahan’s production capacity, new machines, production lines, and facilities seem well-suited for handling international orders. Do you have specific plans to attract printing orders from abroad?

Although the launch of Teram’s new production line coincided with the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly impacted our export plans, we now have a serious strategy in place for exports within the Teram Group.

Environmental considerations are becoming increasingly important in the printing industry. What actions has Teram taken in this regard, and what certifications has it received?

Teram is proud to have received the National Green Industry and Provincial Green Industry awards from the Environmental Organization in 2022 and 2023. We’ve taken significant steps in this area, including maximizing the use of natural light in all production halls, water purification, comprehensive waste management and segregation, reducing plastic use through alternative solutions, employing high-efficiency equipment, reducing energy consumption, and more.

Your most recent exhibition appearance was at Pharmex (July 2024). What were your key takeaways from this event?

At this exhibition, Teram introduced the cold foil technique as our latest innovation in the packaging industry. However, unlike previous years, this year’s exhibition—due to its relocation to the Shahr-e-Aftab Exhibition Center and coinciding with the presidential elections—didn’t meet expectations in terms of service quality, visitor turnout, and participant engagement. Significant improvements are needed for next year.
